IBEDA Certified Safety

The main focus in manufacture of IBEDA safety devices is not merely on the professional assembly of the individual components, but on the 100% testing of every flashback arrestor and quick-action coupling produced by IBEDA.

Therefore, all tests that are required are carried out by means of the especially designed IBEDA testing equipment – our guarantee for safe and reliable products!

Test-bench for flashback tests

Test-bench for flashback tests

Each fitting is subjected to a flashback with a fuel-oxygen mixture at maximum operational pressure to determine faultless functioning of the flame arrestor. It is this performance check that turns a fitting into an IBEDA safety device that users around the world can trust - at all times.

Flashback tests are performed with an Acetylene-Oxygen gas mixture. The specifications for the gas mixture (Acetylene 32% to 35%) and the pressure (1.5bar) are according to the EN ISO 5175-1. Flashback arrestors for high-pressure applications (e.g. Acetylene 2.5 bar) are to be tested at their maximum working pressure (gas mixture).

Flashback resistance of flashback arrestors according to EN ISO 5175-1:

The test for flashback resistance (design-type test) of flashback arrestors with G3/8 connection is to be performed with a steel tube (inner diameter = 10 mm). For flashback arrestors with a connection size larger than G3/8 (for example, safety devices type DEMAX or SIMAX), the inner diameter of the steel tube must be the same as the nominal diameter of the outlet boring.

Helium-vacuum leak test equipment

By means of a helium-vacuum leak test procedure that is carried out at maximum operational pressure, it can be ensured that each device is gas tight according to the corresponding norms. A checking of the gas non-return valve completes our fully-automated quality assurance process.

During the test procedure with Helium in a vacuum chamber, leakages can be determined which are even far below the required values of 8 cm³/h for the external gas tightness, or 10 cm³/h for the shut-off valves of hose couplings according to EN561, or 50 cm³/h for the gas non-return valves of flashback arrestors according to EN ISO 5175-1.

Testing specification for flashback arrestors

Every arrestor is submitted to a flashback test. By means of the new test equipment each unit is additionally tested for slow reverse flow of gas (≤ 50cm³/h), for external gas tightness (≤ 8cm³/h), for a proper reset function (for products with pressure sensitive cut-off valve) and for leaks once this valve is releases (≤ 50cm³/h). All tests are according to the standard EN ISO 5175-1.

Testing specification for hose couplings

Hose couplings with automatic shut-off valve are tested for leaks (≤ 10cm³/h) in both the coupled and uncoupled state as per EN 561 para 7.2.

The leak test procedure is carried out at maximum operational pressure.

Test- and production processes monitored by an independent testing institute (BAM)

  • every flashback arrestor and quick-action coupling is tested
  • test procedure according to international standards
  • all processes are recorded and documented
